It was not only sudden, but seemingly random. Which she did was not necessarily worse, but definitely as bad. On the contrary, most authors would have made a happy ending out of this story, and I applaud Ann Patchett for not taking the easy way out- however much I wanted it for all the characters I became attached to. The fact that it was not a happy ending was expected. But not for the reasons one might expect. ![]() |
